Advice please regarding cambelt on a mk5 golf gti
« on: 26 October 2013, 22:32 »
Hi all,

Just looking for some advice/input. I have recently bought a mk5 golf gti from a trader in the midlands. I have had a few initial problems with the car after buying it, and returned it to trader for repair.
I now have the car back but because of certain things which have happend along the way I dont really trust him which has made me paranoid about my car!

Basically every second hand car which I have bought in the past I have had the cambelt changed on them for piece of mind.

Now this car has a record in the service book by VW of it being changed 10k ago, I even called them to confirm the work which they say they have done.

Would you get it done anyway?
I can't help feel like I am wasting my money but at the same time I have been thinking maybe this guy messed with it etc, whilst he was trying to repair the fault I was having with it.

Hope this makes sense, just feeling paranoid about it and obviously I dont want it to fail.

This

You get 2 years on parts and labour so that should be peace of mind. Unless the 10k was more than 2 years ago......

Yeah I think I'll try and get them to send me something.

Oh right I didn't realise they give 2 year warranty for their work. It was done the end of April last year (2012) So I will still have 6 months or so of warranty left I guess. Thanks.

I guess I will maybe plan a change sometime next year.
