OEM Bi-xenon retrofit - AFS coding

I'm in the process of fitting OEM bi-xenons to my mk6 Golf GT.

I've got everything worked out, bar the coding for the AFS (auto-levelling/cornering) module.

My car has ACC (adaptive chassis), and hence already has the auto-levelling sensors fitted. With this scenario the AFS module does not directly connect to the rear level sensor, but communicates over the canbus to get the level information.

The issue is, that the short coding for the AFS module is not documented in VCDS and the only short codes i can find on the web are for setups without ACC that have the level sensor directly connected to the AFS module.

Is there anyone on here with bi-xenons, on a mk6 golf with the ACC suspension?, or anyone who has retrofitted the xenons to the same setup with autolevelling?

If they could give me their short code for the AFS module, i would be very grateful!

If you have a legitimate VCDS cable then just drop an email to Ross-Tech with a full autoscan and they will give you the correct coding.

They supplied one for me when I was retrofitting mine which also turned on the tourist mode, and bend lighting options in the MFA. My car doesn't have ACC.

I have a scan from another car with ACC and their coding was 1445212, not sure if that will work for you.

After the module is coded you will need to run the Basic Settings again.

I do have a genuine VCDS - but i bought it second hand and rosstech want you to pay $99 to register a 2nd hand VCDS!, just trying to save some money

How hard was the retrofit of the xenons? Did you have to change your module or was it ok?

It's a fair bit of work if you want the auto-levelling and cornering working, but it's mainly just a lot of wiring and removing panels.
The front bumper may also need to be removed or half undone to get the existing lights out.
Thankfully i saved some work as i don't have to install the rear level sensor with ACC.

My CECM/BCM module needs changing, even though i have fogs and headlight washers - if you're looking to do the retrofit and have VCDS, check your central electrics version.
If it doesn't end in 87 then you will need to upgrade it....eg. mine was 1k0937086M which is a midline and doesn't have the pins for the high beam shutters.

Also if you're looking to have the LED DRL version of the bi-xenons, then you also need at least software version 575 (this came in with D modules but not all D's have it so best get E or newer). I got the set of lights without the LED DRL - i'm not keen on the look of LED DRLs but thats just a personal choice, a lot of people like them.

I'm mainly following this guide for install: http://golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46536 , combined with ERWIN wiring diagrams to ensure i'm as close to a factory install as possible.

I'm going the same route and didn't bother with kuftec adapters and de-pinned and repinned new connectors to the headlights.

I haven't finished my install yet, just waiting on my new CECM to turn up! - I'll get some pics up once i'm done

What are you going to do about DRLs? The early xenon cars had dip beam, tail lights and number plate lights all on as there was no separate DRL lamp. Most people didn't like that, so turned them off.

I have read different on the cecm, if fitting xenons without led there is no need to change the module if you have a midline just put the high beam wires into the cecm from the kufatec adaptors

Also if you change the cecm module I've read you need to recode your keys and all sorts?

I had the Midline (86) CECM and the pins for the high beam shutters were physically not fitted on the connector so putting the wires in from the Kufatec loom would have no effect as there was nothing to connect them to.

I also had to upgrade to the Highline (87) CECM. The knee airbag has to come out for this.

For me the hardest bit was getting to the CAN bus but that may be already sorted for a car with ACC.

You do have to re-learn your keys but that is a one minute job with VCDS.

Looks like a slightly different approach for a LHD car than a RHD car.

I didn't have to remove the glove box at all, as the AFS module fitted behind the panel at the end of the dash on the passenger side as below.

Mine will be off - tails lights is all you need if you want a DRL. Legally cars produced in Europe from Feb 2011 onwards have to have full DRLs, mines a MY10 so doesn't matter.

I'm hoping i don't have to remove the airbag - i'll find out soon enough!
