Disappointing is an understatement
« on: 24 October 2013, 21:20 »
For those who read my previous post "The Bubble has Burst" lets just say now the wheels have fallen off!

My car, delivered after a 5 month wait broke down last Wednesday 16th. It just kept turning over not firing.

It is a lease car and was recovered to my local VW dealer on the back of a low loader.

I duely called around the following morning early to find it in the workshop with a technician looking at. Not to worry the service manager said we think its a sensor gone and we'll order one should be here tomorrow back on the road by the weekend.

Happy days.

Phone call later that day very sorry the part is on back order with VW they're saying 28th October delivery. We have asked for priority delivery due to nature of the car.

Very sorry VW will be happy to provide you with a hire car for the period.

Oh dear.

True to their word a 1.2 s Petrol Golf delivered from Europcar that afternoon, not a replacement for a GTD but ok I can live with it for a week and a bit.

Call in to the dealer yesterday, check with service hmmmmm there is a problem with this part VW are now saying November as it will have to come from the factory floor (Is the factory that big it's going to take someone an extra few days to go and get it I said with a smile)

It was suggested that I logged a complaint with VW Customer Service. I rang customer service praised the dealer no end that they'd looked after me superbly. But I was unhappy with the wait.

Passed to a specialist dealing with my type of lease, "I'll make some enquiries after lunch and ring you back"

I rang back this morning - hmmmm well the part we need is unique to the GTD its not available on any other of our brands so its difficult. We have spoke to parts to get it expedited but the new shipment of parts is not due to the factory until the end of November.

End of November I said with a splutter thats not acceptable. A flagship VW car and your saying the part won't be available until the end of November. We are trying to expedite this sooner but i'm afraid its the best I can do.

Ok so my immediate thoughts are to write to the CEO of VW UK, ask them to upgrade my hire car, express my concern and seek financial compensation for loss of earnings.

What do you think???

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the problem with your GTD.
Volkswagen not being able to get a single part shipped via DHL overnight is crazy, I think you need to apply more pressure for a like for like hire car and some compensation.
Get the part number and call up a German dealership to see what the lead times are.

I work in the industry and my guess is the part supplier of this 'unique' component launched the product , struggled to deliver perfectly and for what ever reason it running flat out to a schedule with an agreed fixed four week freeze. Any 'spares' orders usually are usually considered non -critical.

If I were you I would either become an actor for a while on the phone to HQ or ask them to investigate part availability at any ( other than UK) warehouse anywhere. VAG have regional hubs across Europe and if you shout loud enough you may get the part within a week.

I had a water leek from the sunroof on mine, had to wait two weeks. Got loaned a CC and a Tiguan; I'd ask them to swap your car to something worth £25g

Anyway, good luck and relax.

I'm basically in the same situation, my GTD has been back at the dealers since the 10th October, originally told the new part would be 48 hours, then told it was due in on the 19th, now its due the 26th, at least they have loaned me a new GTD, but still not really great after waiting 5 months for a car, only for it to be sat back at the dealers, fingers crossed the part does actually come in tomorrow, but not holding my breath !

I had a mare with an RX8 in 2004 , ended up in Mk iv Astra for four months !! If it is a lease car get them to put some pressure on. I guess it is just bad luck, but extremely frustrating

Do you know what this special part is ?

Surely VW must have some GTD demonstrators within their UK fleet that they could rob the part from to get you going again, and without inconveniencing another GTD prospective owner ?

This is a valid point, take part from a demo GTD as a temp measure to get you back in your car.

Nuggsy71 .... What part are you waiting for?

Emailed the  CEO of VW this morning, didn't expect much and I wasn't disappointed no reply to my email as yet.

Will try and get the part number tomorrow then find a German speaker to ring a dealer in Deutchland on Monday to see if they have any ideas.

thanks
