Build delays
« on: 21 October 2013, 23:27 »
this may have already been mentioned in other posts but I've been in contact with my dealer today as my car was not built last week like it should have. Below is the email he sent giving quite a good explanation as to the delays that some people may be experiencing. if you are delayed and cant get an explanation out of VW, this is probably whats causing the delays

"I have had this supply update sent through for you to view, basically (trying to summarise here) there was a hail storm in Northern Germany at the start of August. This severely damaged thousands of cars that had to be repaired, as a result they used the parts for cars that were already in the build queue (another words yours), I have been told that this delay should not be much more than a week, as per attached sheet.

My apologies for this, I was not aware that something that happened 10 weeks ago was still having an impact as this was not communicated from VW"

Link below for the attached sheet he mentions: https://www.copy.com/s/o4Rps9NAUTdi/Car%20Supply%20update%20WK42_635173607756256250.pdf

Thought this might be useful info for people having no luck with their dealers

I'm not sure everybody is affected, just perhaps the orders affected by the hail storms.
I ordered Sept 14th, it was a full month before I even got a estimated build week of 46. It was recently confirmed as BW46.
I think that for the most if the GTi orders they have caught up.
I guess I'll find out in December if my car doesn't turn up.

I think a few others got this excuse and a few other varying excuses (planned holiday shutdown etc) from VW Cust Services, VW Exec office and dealers and differing excuses from all 3 prompted most not to believe a word VW was saying.

Good to see some announcement though of VWUK officially telling dealers a realistic lead time of 25 weeks (although with some recent orders getting a BW in Nov/Dec this year who knows whats going on)

Hopefully it is only a weeks delay (what I had in BW39) but some BW39/40 (and I think a BW38) are still being built with little info from VW on exactly what the issue is!!!!

The PDF is for BW42, would be interesting to see BW46 schedules.
I personally think the factory should have caught up now and the remaining delays are to do with specific cars which were damaged in the hail storms.
Perhaps these cars went through some of the production line again to have parts replaced.
It took a month for my car to get a provisional build week, I would say that was a delay with my car, right?

Time to turn the heat up on your dealership to find out exactly where your car is, from what I remember there are 20 steps involved from start to end and your dealer should have access to this system.
The tracker site for customers is very basic :(
Were BW39 cars caught up in the hail storms and the rectory clouded June/July?
Looking at the posted PDF it looks like all cars ordered up to BW42 had a 25 week lead time (worst case)

I feel that individual communications to customers affected didn't take place.
They was I see it, any cars damaged in the hail storm had to be rebuilt, the factory closed for a month too in June/July.

Looks like could be a true delay by the hail storms.

Yes it's true, also the factory closed for a approx a month too in June/July.
It's a case of bad communication from VW. :(
