MK3 16v Cat problems
« on: 21 August 2005, 15:17 »
noticed a really loud knocking - had a look and it looks like my cat's innards have come loose - which means it sounds pants and needs fixing.

Euro Car Parts list one for £75 made by REACT - anyone got one and can tell me what it's like?

Next option is to get a bypass but as the car is 94 it would fail MOT so probably not the thing to do.

Last option would be to remove the cat, open it up and empty it of the honeycomb innards - which would release a few extra hp too, and help my Jetex system breath a bit better - any one done this  - what difference did it make and did it still pass MOT?

Thanks guys.
Cheers

Colin.

Of course the other option would be a milltek sports cat - no idea of cost though....anyone clue me in there?

Renew the cat, that is the only option i'm afraid. If you empty out the honeycomb stuff then the cat won't work so you won't get your emissions low enough to get through an MOT.

if its just to get the car through its mot........ hit the cat silencer with a hammer, a few times from all directions... this will cause the 'dents' that you make to hold the inside bits of the cat still....... if the cats fooked anyways it wont do any harm, will stop it ratteling.....

oh sorry am i letting my trade secrets go here..... lol
