The best way to clean upholstery seats?
« on: 21 August 2005, 13:03 »
hi, i have a mk 2 golf, and ma drivers seat was broken, ( coz its a 2 door, ppl getting in and out and the seat going back and forwards caused the frame to crack)

now i went and bought a driver and passenger seat, for 40 quid, but they are FILTHY,

they are upholstery/ cloth, not leather, and i was just wondering, what is the best way to clean them, the stains are dry dirt, but also kinda spill stains, like as if someone has spilt coke or a fizzy drink and its left a mark,

anyone know the best way to clean em up, i am gna put covers on, but i just want to know that the seat underneath is a lil bit decent and not filthy

Get one of those el cheapo steam cleaners. I got one for about fifteen quid and have used it on several cars including my wife's cabby. The seats in it were very grubby/oily. The difference is absolutely phenomenal.

get some upholstery foam stuff and spray a ton of it on and soak the seats in it. then get a spoon and scrape the liquid off into a bowl or something and keep doing it till its relatively dry then spray a bit more on and scrub the f**k out of them then rest them by a radiator to dry off. i did this with a set of seats froma rallye that had been sitting outside in a scrapper for a few weeks. they were filthy and mouldy as hell but came up amazingly afterwards. i like the idea of using a steam cleaner though, wasn't sure how good those little ones would be but if mr hoax says they work then its got to be worth a try!

I recently saw a modded black golf for sale on here, where the geezer had removed the cloth from the seats and put them throught the washing machine. They looked MINT. I guess its a toss up between the agro of removing and refitting the cloth or scrubbing them, or the cost of a steam cleaner !
