Like its on Rails !!! - Changed the XDS Setting
« on: 17 October 2013, 17:47 »
Hey up guys,

After reading the below thread i decided to whip out my VAG-COM and change my XDS Settings a few days ago. Now im sure the pro's here have changed this setting, but for people who havent or are new to GTI/ VAG_COM i will give a simple break down.

Basically changing the XDS settings dramatically reduces Understeer to the point where it felt like i had just had new springs and Roll bar fitted.

Quoting from another member on that site:

No matter how much i try to go fast in the corner/round about or over steer...the car goes tight near the curb with no problems whatsoever.

You know when you go in a turn too fast and you realize when you are half way and start bumping the brake and steer softly to avoid slip and too much understeer?

I don't have to do that anymore! you can totally feel the car doing that necessary braking for you, i could 100% feel it today, every fast turn, the car just goes in and out of the corner so damn nicely and cleanly, trouble free, no understeer whatsoever, it's like driving on rails..heck at points it even doesn't feel natural! but it works!

I can totally see this also helping me avoid accidents, totally worth and i am willing to pay for that little extra pads.

And for me he words sum it up, totally worth changing the setting. It has inspire way my confidence over the last few day, even in the rain

If you have VAG_COM its : Control Module, go to 03 ABS Brakes, then 10 Adaptation, go to Channel:

Channel 36 XDS
There are 3 settings
0-center (stock setting)
1-weak
2-strong

Cant imagine how good its going to feel when i finally get my front and rear roll bars at the start of next year.

(ps. this wil make your rear pads wear out quicker) - but defo woth it.

i'm assuming you have it strong

a word of warning XDS is not 100% predictable especially on mapped cars, a few who know what they are talking about and tune cars have always said it 9 times out of 10 great, every once in a while it brakes the wrong wheel and you just have even more understeer

if you want your GTI a bit more frisky at the rear there is play in the rear suspension to allow this, KPM did on mine

I changed mine a couple of years ago, to the Scirocco R setting...and it's better, but not brilliant.
After all, it's still electronics and an open diff pretending to be a proper limited slip diff...and the car will still understeer, especially if the car has more than standard grunt.

Now, if somebody can crack how to get the ACC 'Sport' steering setting without the harder damper setting, I'd be keen to know...because that would make for a better drive!

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

for me if the clutch needed upgrading i'd get a diff put in, having driven a mk5 with one it was just epic in slow speed corners, still to drive revos roc now it has the diff in which has transformed the car
