Front strut brace 8v
« on: 15 October 2013, 20:00 »
Is there a difference between an 8v and 16v front strut brace, if so what is it. I have one but it sits on top of the expansion bottle and very near the throttle. I have an 8v Golf. :undecided:

Pic?  just an idle though have you tried turning it 180degrees ?

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

Thanks for the reply I will try different positions as I have only tried it as it came from the seller on Ebay. If not I will try and sort a pic.

see if you rotate the bar 180degree, will it clear the throttle body - but then foul on the coolant bottle?

id a similar issue on my 16v where it was tight up against the coolant bottle but i just dropped the coolant bottle an inch by making a modified bracket. also, mine is the earlier type coolant bottle whereas yours is later type

I did try rotating it but to stop it fouling anything I would have to lift it up but then there is bonnet clearance. I was going to move the coolant bottle around the strut tower rather than lower it just to be sure I kept correct height.

Looks like I have some work to do I foolishly thought it was a bolt on job lol and didn't want to start messing about if it was for another car, ho hum

The coolant bottle just needs to be higher than the inlet on the side of the head, so you can drop it an inch no problem
