License Plate Holder
« on: 15 October 2013, 16:40 »
I was wondering if its possible (or if any of you have) requested that the license plate holder you receive on your new car doesn't include the dealerships info?

I just feel it looks quite cheap as opposed to something plain.

There's no harm in asking. I don't know if they could do it as I'd guess that all of their blank plates already have the dealership printed on them. I went down the route of getting my own plates and providing them to the dealer to fit for me as I didn't want any advertising shown

As mine has a private reg, I had some made up for my previous Scirocco (BS certified), and took them off and they are now on the GTD. Does look quite a bit smarter.

I've agreed with my dealer that they'll fit the plates without the surrounds (that contain the advertising).

However, I presumed that the car actually comes with the number plate mounting 'block' at the front for the UK market? Is this not the case? It's been there on all the pre PDI pictures that I've seen.

Yes, the black number plate holder is standard on the front bumper (nothing at the back), but contains no logos or letters (unless the dealer adds them himself).

I'd ask the dealer to stick (not screw) their own plates on, then fit your own once you've got it back home.

Yes they all come with the mounted block. It's not just the surrounds (if you get surrounds which most people won't) that include the advertising. It will also be printed on the plates themselves.

Why would you not want your local dealer's details at the bottom of the plate?

I would agree it looks cheap if it is a local crappy car supermarket (whenever I see CarGiant on a plate I always think "cheapskate") but to have a main dealer on there....not sure it looks cheap, more the opposite.

hey ho though, each to their own I suppose

I really mean the holder, not the plates themselves as its inevitable they will include the dealers details unless you use your private plates.

I just like things as minimal as possible so the more cheap and nasty dealer fonts that can be avoided the better for me.

With both my Golf and Passat, they both came with the dealers plates that had an extra black section on the bottom of the plate with the dealers details on.

I had my own plates made up for my private reg numbers with nothing else on them other than the BS number in the bottom, right corner.

I know exactly what you mean about Car Giant etc plates. It's like the Arnold Clark stickers. Jeez, how big and bright do they need to be?
