Why not look into gearbox modifying.... keep a standard reliable engine and let the box make you go faster

but as stated after your car is set up properly

well i will hopefully be buying another gti to put the rebuilt engine as a mk3  gti with no mot is near enough free these days, so this car will be the misses and new car will be MINE   but port and polish done by professionals and rebuilding can be done at my work in our engine room or a friend of mine who rebuilds jap engines for a living always gives me a good price and guarantees,  the setup i have on my car now is  juts for this car i would hope one day to have a few gti in my collection there just such great little cars very under appreciated in my opinion i have had 15 cars in 7 years and this has been best by far they ranged  from alfa romeo to 4x4 cav and a drift car my little golf been the most fun for money and repairs are so simple and cheap.

New engine New Car New Setup New FUN

I had a Mk3 16v and found it fun but unreliable and had electrical problems. The Mk2 16v I replaced it with was much more fun.
I also had an Alfa 156 2.0TS, but that was riddled with problems.
True the Mk3 is undervalued but it'll never be the classic the Mk2 was.
