I agree, you're not going to see much without going mad on an ABF.

We can supply all parts required and we take on engine work, blocks tested and check, cylinder heads tested and checked, porting and gas flowing with valve seat improvements which make good differences over stock, can do big valve heads too.

Then it's just a case of replacing bearings, shells, oil pump, gaskets, guides and stem seals.

All that would cost approx £1,500 though and probably only see you 160-170bhp mark with a decent filter set up and exhaust.

To appreciate the gains I would change your complete wheel set up. Those steels will not help along with the tyres. You really need to decide if it is looks or performance you are after. Otherwise if your car is not set up correctly it's a complete waste of money. That's why I am sorting out out my alloys,  rubber, brakes, suspension etc before I do any kind of engine work. Plus engine rebuilding and especially porting is best left to the experts. As mentioned without spending thousands you are not going to get much out of an Abf. First port of call would be to change your wheel set up my friend.

Ess three (Glen) has saved me thousands of wasted pennies.  Just be careful of throwing away money for little to no gain. A uprated manifold and de cat is a good example of this along with cams.

Why not clean up the spare ABF, sell it to someone wanting it for a Mk2. Then get a 1.8T or a 1.9PD in there and sell the original ABF as well.

Sorting out the suspension and brakes should be taken as read.

btw Foreveryoungaus16v those wheels in his sig photo are early GTI alloys not steels, but they won't be particularly lightweight.

Check out Hamlins in Bridgewater Somerset.  They will completely re build your head etc for £400. All valves etc changed. They are ace and work closely with TSR Performance.

Yeah I know my friend. He has bought some steels to replace them.

well i will hopefully be buying another gti to put the rebuilt engine as a mk3  gti with no mot is near enough free these days, so this car will be the misses and new car will be MINE   but port and polish done by professionals and rebuilding can be done at my work in our engine room or a friend of mine who rebuilds jap engines for a living always gives me a good price and guarantees,  the setup i have on my car now is  juts for this car i would hope one day to have a few gti in my collection there just such great little cars very under appreciated in my opinion i have had 15 cars in 7 years and this has been best by far they ranged  from alfa romeo to 4x4 cav and a drift car my little golf been the most fun for money and repairs are so simple and cheap.

New engine New Car New Setup New FUN

It certainly helps having your garage and contact set up.
