GTD Adaptive Chassis Control - Faster in Normal mode

So I got my GTD 2 weeks ago and automatically stuck it into Sport mode on ACC thinking this is all I will need...

However today I decided for no reason in particular to change it into Normal mode, and boy the car in 1st & 2nd gear is rapid, there was little no diesel lag at all!! 

It seems noticeably quicker than Sport mode, is this expected and have I misunderstood the purpose of ACC, execpt for Dampers and road surface etc....??

Shouldn't feel faster in normal mode. Throttle response is better in Sport mode. Maybe if you floor the throttle beyond the "click" all modes feel the same, but normal should not feel faster.

wasnt there a review somewhere in which the 0-60/62 time was better in normal than sport?

it doesn't alter the output of the engine so no matter what mode you are in it'll be the same. the dcc adjusts the dampers but as mh has said the throttle response is different in sport than in normal.

That was put down to perceived marginally better traction in normal mode saving 0.1s if I remember rightly. Debatable whether the traction thing was the reason or the person using the car just had a slightly better attempt on that go.

Just seems strange that when pulling away in 1st and then into 2nd I shot down the road, normally there'd be a drum roll then the kick in of power. It did actually feel as though I was back in a petrol hot hatch. Admittedly 3rd gear and onwards power delivery was the same as it was in Sport....

I will change back to sport tomorrow and check again, maybe I've been too light footed or traction hasn't been there to press harder.

adekil: What tyres do you have. My pull-away traction in the slight damp is poor with my Bridgestone Potenzas - Dunlops or Continentals should have more initial grip and less tramping than I have with the Bridgestones. Anything more than 1/2 throttle in the damp and i'm tramping - having to cut back on my take-off throttle usage as a result.

MH - I have Bridgestone Potenza too and yes whilst in Sport the traction is not good pulling away, swapping to normal and I had no traction issues and slightly quicker acceleration!

Give it a go and see if you notice any difference or maybe I've just 'pressed' something inadvertently in sport mode

I think that was the clarkson article / top gear test with the stig going round the track 0.1s faster in comfort - go figure. In the sport & normal settings, the car clocked identical times.

I suspect it is the slightly blunted throttle response in "normal" that allows you to mash the pedal a bit more and pull away without tramping. Honestly don't know how VW can publicise an "anti-tramping" feature for the GTD and then put tyres on that seem to promote tramping over other brands they use for the same car. If nothing else it seems to show the car doesn't seem to have an anti-tramping feature on it at all (or at least one that works).
