Diverter Valve
« on: 12 October 2013, 12:37 »
I've been reading about the Solenoid Coil activated Diverter Valve Mod

as seen here

http://www.amdtuning.com/product.details.cfm?ProductID=17598&VariantID=917&ReferenceID=180612

Has anyone fitted this to their cars? It sounds like another small but worthwhile modification and one that can be achieved on the driveway.
Any feedback is appreciated.

Cheers

I've been wondering about this as well. It sounds impressive but would there be any noticeable difference or benefit? Maybe just on a tuned car. It's still a hundred quid.

It doesn't sound impressive, it sounds chavvy.

Just my 2p.

May I ask why?
As far as I can tell it's about replacing another known weakness, ie the plastic diaphragm with a metal component that also manages to improve throttle response and reduce lag. Not an issue on the standard tune but somewhat noticeable on a tuned car.

The blurb and GFB website seem to allude to the fact there is no real change in engine sound, this was the main point to my question as I don't want the car doing gay farts everytime I accelerate . I'm guessing that's what you mean by chavvy, and I couldn't agree more.

I did notice they have recently redesigned the unit due to leakages, so perhaps it's not sorted yet, still if it improves the viability of my engine componants especially in the improved tuned state, then I wonder if I might just try it anyway. Maybe slightly paranoid since the engine issue

Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick, but is this not the same thing as all the Scooby boys fit to their cars that makes the stupid pffffft noise in gear shifts?

Thats a dump valve kind of same same but different!!

The dump valve dumps the air pressure into the atmosphere when you let of the gas hence the chav sound the dv routes this pressure back into the intake.

This dv valve is already fitted to the GTI but as mentioned has been known to suffer from tears thus leaking boost when on the throttle.

However Im pretty sure the MK6 has a newer one fitted not the rubber one mentioned in the link for the AMD one (unless I stand corrected) if so this doesn't suffer from this possible fate it was more of a MK5 issue so a potential waste of cash, BUT your are running above stock boost so may be worth it. I had looked into it and put it down to if it did go then change it proactive rather than preventative.

Depends 2011-2012 cars have a slightly different one. Earlier cars can still suffer not as bad as earlier versions of the valve on the mk5 but they car tear. At around £35 a go for 4 years use replacing a standard one with another is not that expensive if it goes.

I would say this mod is more for modified cars like stage 2 Iirc Neil posted about it previously and was going to get one

Personally I'd save your money and grab an OE version 'G' valve from the dealer, proven over time to be the most robust and long lasting of the OE revisions (fitted as standard on k04 powered cars)

So then, as the engine has a build date of 07/13 on the stickers. And as they replaced the Turbo at the engine change, the chances are i've a pretty new one anyway and hopefully the latest spec as well. That answers that question then

Thanks for the tips

Here's a thread running on MK5 UK:

Since the G revision splitting doesn't appear to have been much as much of an issue.
