What age was the mk4 facelift?
« on: 10 October 2013, 16:05 »
Hello again, silly basic question but can't find it in the search, i've read that "newer" mk4's got a full screen in between the speedo and rev counter compared to half a screen on "earlier" mk4's which shows more info.

Does anyone know what reg people consider to be the "newer" golfs? i.e. when they got a facelift, and what better equipment they got? ive been checking whatcar and parkers and it doesn't say but hopefully one of you experts will tell me what the aged best gttdi to buy with the best spec?

Full FIS i think its called. Boras also came with them and some of the Passats have the same full screen board.  There on added info on them as such just shows up if the doors, boot and so on is open.

Do you mean like this??

Are you after a set?? Mate has a few I think.

No im looking at getting a gttdi 130/150 and there seems to be subtle differences i can't put my finger on between the w-reg's to say the 51 plates and the 51's compared to the 02 and 03's, (alloys are the obvious ones) i might be barking up the wrong tree, but hoped if someone new when/if a facelift was (on passat 5.5's its from 03 when the indicators moved from the wings to the mirrors) then i could go for a better specced one, i thought this may have been the case with mk4's and this full FIS but maybe not. Cheers for going to the trouble to add pics mate.

All mk4 where more or less the same body wise.

If your just on about different spec, Some came with a winter pack, like heated seat and theres other wee bits here and there.

Dot go with the badge on the back to what the spec is. Each dealer picked what they wanted so a GTTDI can be the same as a TDI with say a red I

In terms of a facelift cars from 51plate on got sport seats instead of Recaros

The FIS was an optional extra on all models

Cheers guys v helpful. so i don't need to disregard the older ones, that broadened my search.

There are plenty out there, but one more thing, do all 130 and 150 tdi's have the PD engine? because if not this could shorten the search again. Ive got a 130PD Passat and its great in a heavy car like that, i bet its a beast in a lighter more chuckable golf!!!

Yes and I think one of the lower BHP car have it aswell.

You might be after a rear ARB before you start the chucking into the corners.  :lipsrsealed:
