Easy cleaning routine for new MK7 GTD
« on: 10 October 2013, 11:53 »
Hi all

Hate to repeat a question that has maybe been asked a thousand time here, but I can find the answer I want.

I just got my new MK7 GTD in pure white with Pano roof. Being married with kids and little time to spare, I want to keep my car clean, but with as little hassle as possible.

Using the two bucket method, what all round cleaner / wax product is recommended? I have no intention going into a 6 hour detailing regime.

Just a wash and go setup.

I might treat the wheels though, they are pretty special.

Many thanks

Val

If you just want a wash and wax product, use Autosmart Duet. Available on eBay etc and 5 litres can be had pretty cheap which will last you ages!

Then just get a good wax to put on once every few months to keep it protected.

The wax in the shampoo then just acts as a top up!

Easy peasy! :)

That's perfect thanks Aaron, it used to be a bottle of turtle wax on My Renault 5 all those years ago!

But this car is too nice to face the 'sponges on the ground' local car washers.

What about a good treatment to keep the wheels clean? (Protection)

The best thing you can do to keep it looking fairly decent is get a wool wash mit and drying towels, with the two bucket method and a half decent wax you'll be quite happy methinks. ;)

Yeah make sure for the wash stage you have a decent wash mitt, ideally a nice lambswool one or similar. And a good quality fluffy drying towel also.

For protecting the wheels I use a product called 'Planet Polish Wheel Seal N Shine', amazing product and pretty cheap too. Or you can use Mint Rims from Auto Finesse, another good one!

Just helps to protect them, and makes them so much easier to clean in the future then, and they bead like the paintwork!

Don't use the waffle cloths for drying go for a proper fluffy drying cloth.

Yeah get a big fluffy microfibre towel if possible and use waffle for glass.

Go on i4detailing and the drying towel you want should be in there top 10 down the right hand side!
