gti engineering?
« on: 20 August 2005, 22:56 »
hey does anyone know anything about "gti-engineering"? i know they were around in the mk2's hayday but i saw a 16v today with "gti-engineering" badges stickers and something i've never seen before, "gti-engineering" bumpers!!! they looked kinda like smoothed off big bumpers but came round the sides and joined the arch like rallyes and corrado's do. they also had 'gti' stamped into them.
the car was a sort of helious blue and i'm sure it was running a wide track front end like the g60's. we were driving so i couldn't get to talk to the guy but he had a web address on a sticker in the window which makes me thing it was slightly more modern than the original 'gti-engineering' i've tried various adresses but none of them came up with anything. anyone got any ideas?!

When I worked at a VW main dealer we sometimes used to phone GTI ENGINEERING  for advice back in the 80s as we used to find them a lot more helpful and knowledgeable than the mostly useless buggers at VW SERVICE TECHNICAL  Dept
They were quite popular in their time , the conversions that springs to mind was the RE 2000 Golf mk2 GTI  and a White and silver Jetta GTI with BBS body kit on it ( I think ) ,both pretty quick in their day and probably still are ( if you can still find one  :undecided: )

I think they were based either on or very near to Silverstone

Does my arse look TOO BIG (to fit) in this (forum).... or was it something I said ?

I bought the doors off a GTI engineering 16v. it had a sweet steering wheel and a 1.9 16v under the bonnet. but then unfortunally it got sandwiched and wrote off.

Hello Joe. One of the guys who works for GTI Engineering (also called BBR) lives at the end of my road.
He sometimes drives home in their demo cars. They have done some VERY interesting things with the mini cooper, including a 300bhp conversion! http://www.bbrgti.com They had an article in evo recently, and always have an ad in there.

Anyway, these are the same guys who are GTI Engineering. They have a Mk5 GTI test/demo car at the moment and they've already started fiddling, they have a nice (you would like it!) chrome GTI Engineering badge on the back.

Here is the info on their Mk2 conversions! http://www.bbrgti.com/gti.php and http://www.bbrgti.com/gti_products.php

The guys are hardcore petrolheads http://www.bbrgti.com/history.php http://www.bbrgti.com/two_bs.php.

ahh thats cool, that wasn't the website he had on his car it was something like gti-engineering.com or something similar, maybe if you see them you could ask if they know of anything out there.

the re2000 1900 16v sounds most like the one i saw. i remember seeing a jetta at no-rice a while ago who had the engine etc out of one of these. i just liked its subtle but clearly tuned style. would love to get some pics up here of it as i think it was an awesome bit of kit. cheers for the info!

Looks like they used Zender kits for the mk1, not sure on the mk2.
