Can anybody give me some clue as to how to center the mk3 slip ring please?
I tried fitting the lupo steering wheel tonight and it is all pretty straightforward except that when I had put it all back together, including the steering column/cowling, it turned so far but would then stick a bit and drag the wiring for the airbag around with it a little way, ripping off the steering cowling. I found this websiteAnd in it, it suggests:
Notes:
? When removing and installing the centring ring with slip ring, ensure that the centring ring is in the centre position.
? As a new part the centring ring with slip ring is secured in the centre position by a cable tie.
How do I work out if it is in the centre position?? I'm assuming it isn't as it wouldn't be pulling it round with it otherwise?
*EDIT*For anyone else who might have this issue in the future - after a thorough google session, I discovered the following little nuggets of information:
There is a red button on the slip ring (a lock), press it so you can rotate it by hand. Measure how many turns you can do from its leftmost and rightmost position (as far as i remember it is around 5-5.5 turns). It's center position is at halfwaysYou have to press the red button to be able to spin the ring. Sadly it locks only once a spin and the center position is not neccesarily at when it locks.I also counted 35 turns from the left and rightmost position, so halfway is 17.5. Is this correct? ----> 5.5 turns are the maximum. If you counted more than 5.5, then the slip is knackered.Am going to remove again tomorrow and see if I can center it using above info. Hope this helps someone else
