New turbo advice

Hi,
well my car needs a replacement turbo (mk5 golf gti, wastegate failure)
I have only just bought the car so the independent dealer is doing it, well his garage.

The problem I have is, when I mentioned to him make sure he uses the correct oil he said I don't think the oil is being changed.... (he may not know as he isn't doing the change)

Is this even possible during a turbo change? And how important is it that the turbo is primed?

It is quite easy to not change the oil when changing the turbo but its always reccomended to have it changed. Priming the turbo is very important.

You'll find that there is a note that comes with a reman turbocharger saying that new oil and filter must be fitted and turbo must be primed or warranty will be invalid.

ever tryed claim on a turbo warranty from a motor factor  ?  they just give you the run around till you get bored.

should they chainge the oil and filter - yes

will they - on bodge it and scarper warranty work not likely

i managed to grenade 4 garret VNT turbos on work van, doing about 1 a fortnight,  those engines are prone to lube issues and they never replaced / cleaned any of the pipework out or changed the tiny filter in the oil line for the turbo ether.
