My Build Week 36 - The Nightmare!
« on: 07 October 2013, 10:27 »
Whilst a lot of build week 36ers are enjoying or have taken delivery of their cars, I'm still wondering when VW are going to finish building my GTD.

I ordered on the 9th April this year (feels like last year!). The dealer called me on the 11th September to say my car had started production and this was reflected on the online tracker as 'Build in Progress'. Fast forward 4 weeks later, and I'm still at the same status.

Last Monday, I started to turn on the pressure in order to get some answers as to what was happening with my car, and whether it really existed or if it was still in the parts bin. The dealer was helpful in trying to get some answers, but no answers were forthcoming. All I wanted was 2 simple answers to two simple questions "Is my car built yet?" and "When am I going to take delivery of it?" Unfortunately, no one could give me the answers.

It's 6 months since I placed the order for the GTD and to say I'm fed up with the whole situation, is an polite understatement. I was advised by another forum member to get in contact with VW UK and get a case raised. I've done this and had a case manager assigned who is trying to find out what has happened to my GTD.

I got an interesting email with a screen capture from the dealer at the weekend. It shows my car went into production on the 11th September at Checkpoint 1, on the 12th September it went to checkpoint 3 and then on to checkpoint 5 the same day. It then sat from the 12th September until the 5th October when it moved to checkpoint 7. I've asked the question to the dealer as to why it's sat for nearly 4 weeks. The answers have ranged from the factory shut down in September to the infamous Wolfsburg hail storm and the cars damaged have had to go back for repair, thus probably holding my car up. (Not sure I buy that one!)

Meanwhile, those with a build week later than mine are having their cars delivered (I'm pleased for them) and mine is stuck in this limbo state.

Worst car buying experience in 30 years of driving!

I am with you, its a total crock of sh!t.

I am on the verge of cancelling as I have had enough.

When I ordered the car I was really looking forward to owning something special, now I think that when/if the car turns up I will resent it for all the grief it has caused.

I'm sure it was discussed on here that the factory has no facilities to repair damaged cars, its purely an assembly plant. If so then your dealer is certainly grasping at straws and saying anything.
I think everyone appreciates the truth and you'd probably forgive them if they just told you what was actually happening.

I know how you feel. Buying a new car is exciting, but now, it's just hassle. However, I wouldn't cancel as I know from other GTD owners that the car is fantastic. Still no justification though for the length of the wait.

I am also in a similar boat.  Although my Build Week 36 is in Transit and has been for quite a while now It has said I will have my car in 3 Weeks for well over a week now.  Also I was told the car will be on a boat and in the UK last week, also a lie.  I am also getting quite frustrated at seeing later Build Week cars getting built and delivered before mine. I was also told the same lines as you about the infamous Wolfburg Hail Storm and Factory Shutdown as reasons for delay.  If this is the case, then why has it not delayed cars with build weeks later than mine?

I ordered mine the last week of march.  I thought something like the Oryx White paint would be the reason for delay, but I am now seeing Oryx White cars delivered before mine with later order dates?  It's great to see others getting their cars but I am at a loss as to what the delay could be.  Maybe it's just a geographic thing, I ordered from a Southwest England Dealer and Dealers up country are getting preferential treatment, who knows?

I contacted my Dealer again today to see if my car has moved at all from Emden.  The answer is simple... No! There is no logic or reason as to how VW operate they just do what they do and it seems we have to accept it.

Well the factory shutdown was in July, and the hailstorm in May/June, so probably a good bet that neither one of the, is responsible for your delays.

Totally unacceptable of VW (and I'm sick of saying that even though luckily I got mine 3 weeks ago ). Time to dial in some serious pressure with VW CS.

That really sucks Sam67GTD.  It would be one thing if your car hasn't gone into build status but how can they justify an actually started build that is still not complete 4 weeks later.  It boggles the mind.  If it was a parts shortage it should be affecting everyone but as you have said cars ordered later are getting bult and delivered.

It makes no sense Sam, the difference between us was Vienna Leather, Nav Pro, High Beam Assist, Rear Reversing Camera and Keyless Entry.

So is it one of the options above causing the delay?

Can anyone else confirm that they have similar options but have not received their week 36 car?

Well, I was under the impression that a build week meant they had all the parts necessary so your car could be built. Therefore it makes no sense. Nothing about this whole experience makes any sense to me. There's more chance of winning the lottery.

I'm expecting a call from the case manager tomorrow, and I'll be expecting a straight answer as to what is happening. It's still showing 'build in progress'. Maybe I ticked too many boxes on the options list Valenni!

Some serious compensation is going to be pursued with VW!
