Buying a performance exhaust.
« on: 06 October 2013, 23:42 »
I know absolutely nothing about exhaust so would like if someone can point me in the right direction.

Currently have a hole in the middle section so need a replacement.

I want the best performance exhaust at the most reasonable price so bang per buck, not too loud but I dont want it silent. (Only loud when I put my foot down)

Golf mk4 gti 1.8t 150 meant to be mapped to 180 - Carbonio airfilter? and and forge 008 dv.

Currently looking at:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sportex-VW-Golf-mk4-performance-exhaust-system-1-8T-GTi-20v-turbo-10-1997-2004-/271172204029?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f231f75fd

From a bit of reading the millteks sound a little too expensive and I have been told to try local and get one made up for me for a better fit but I dont want to spend too much! £200 max? but if the price is worth the performance increase then so be it.

I have heard about problems with my cat if I get a better exhaust as it may fail its mot? passed my mot 2 months ago!

Sportex seems good reading at http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/331665/2240348.aspx

You need a 4motion rear valance with the milltek kit though. So more money. I would get a qoute on a long life exhaust because they are just over £200.

Either get a custom or as above miltek. I use jetex on mine quality and sound fantastic. I had a few issues with fitting rear box but id got a large bore.... 2.5" like miltek be fine. They around 270-280 tobuy

A few local people said http://tyrespot2-px.rtrk.co.uk/car-exhausts.php were good for custom exhausts but Im not quite sure if it would be better going for a milltek jetex etc. They are a little out my price range!

I have a full turbo back Long life system, in their mid sport tone, I think its a nice note and not too overpowering.
That being said it was around the £800 mark all in
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

What's your budget? As that's going to depend on what you can afford.
