Fallout from transportation ?????
« on: 06 October 2013, 10:10 »
During the first wash yesterday I noticed some orange specks on the front wings of the car, closer inspection and the bloody car is covered in them.

It's not been parked anywhere dodgy so I was a bit confused, tried to have a more concentrated rub to remove but no joy. Had a really detailed look at the car and there were other marks that would not shift.

The car has been Smart Guard treated and it was like this had been applied over these marks.

It was the first time I had really looked at the car in good daylight, it was under spotlights at the dealer and I have only had a decent look around in my garage.

Off I went to the dealer, sales manager took one look and said "that's fallout from transportation" ....... Reply from Dully "I don't give a f@ck what it is, what are you going to do about it"

It was now clear that the car had not been properly prepared before the smart guard as I thought so the treatment had sealed in the marks. They had a new pure white GT in the showroom so I drove mine in and put it next to it, seeing them together mine looked dull

A thousand apologies from the dealer as you can expect, they say it needs the treatment removing, machine polishing and treatment reapplied, it's going it wednesday for this. They have not committed to anything yet but he says he will be giving me some sort of "sweetener"

Not happy .......

I wouldn't let the dealer go within a 100 yards of it. Get yourself a bottle of Iron X, spray on and all that stuff will wash off, easy. It's common, and you'll need to do it every so often anyway, especially on the rear end of the car - a lot of "iron" particles get sucked up onto the rear hatch.

The sweetener should be you get in a professional and he pays for it, since they did it wrong once how can they be trusted a second time...

I did think that, but then if they get it looking like the white GT in the showroom I will be happy enough, thanks for the advice with the Iron X, not owned a white car before, can see the back areas being a challenge through winter!

Yep, in the winter you'll see a lot of these orangey specs as well as tar spots especially on the rear end. Fortunately they are very easy to remove if you use the right stuff, iron x and a decent tar remover.
Personally I'd never let a dealer near the paintwork of my car especially if they are talking about using a machine polisher!

It's a strange one as in my post I mentioned the mint White GT they have in the showroom, side by side mine looks like a 2 year old car, they can do it right and I think that the sales manager is not going to allow any more mistakes. He has one more chance, it's the wife's car, she handed over her TT, paid the deposit and pays the finance, if it ain't right on Wednesday then she is going in and I don't think he wants to see her marching through the doors in battle mode

If they've messed up once, what's to say they aren't going to mess up again?  Do like BtB says - force them to get a professional detailer to sort it out.  They'll do a far better job than the dealer could ever do.

Wouldn't let dealer touch it, your lucky to have no swirled paint with it being new and in your care, may not be the case if there set loose on it.

I would follow advice above with iron x but would recommend a full decontamination followed with a good sealant to protect the paint over this coming winter. I did a write up on this for my candy white and looked great when I'd finished. Follow all the steps I did and your car will be looking just as good if not better than the one in their showroom.

GF had same problem, car had to go back to have the protection layer removed, car cleaned and then protection reapplied.

Never, ever, let a dealership treat your car. I learnt the hard way on my mk 6 when it was swirl city. The jokers never do a good job. Like, ever. Get it professionally done mate, or do it yourself if you're that way inclined.
