'86 8v K Jet - Won't start
« on: 05 October 2013, 20:01 »
Finished the body on my '86 type 19 & cannot get it to start.
Fuel pump was knackered so that has been replaced. Got fuel up to the meter head but thats it.
Nothing at the injector pipes. Definitley fuel problem, sprayed some carb cleaner into manifold (through breather pipe) & it fired 1st touch (obviously very briefly).
Any ideas please, tried a replacement meterhead & still the same.....

Have a read of this thread.   :http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=211434.msg1960399#msg1960399

Can't remember the exact pressure but bear in mind the injectors need at least 4 bar before they will open and spray fuel, so could still be your main pump faulty under the car.
I would check the needle in the meter head isn't stuck first.

All electrics are good - definitely fuel delivery.
There is nothing at any of the injectors, fuel up to meter head but no further.
As previously stated it will fire up briefly if fuel is squirted into inlet (spray of carb cleaner / syringe of petrol) so everything else is fine.
Does anyone have an exploded view of inside the meterhead (can it be dismantled?)

Try looking at the electrical wiring feed loom to the injectors see if voltage is being delivered into the injectors themselves?
The fact the heat from the rear manifold causes brittle looms will impead voltage signal to the injectors to open up.

There is no wiring to the injectors (it's a K Jet) - braided line screwed onto injector, fired by fuel pressure from the meter head

OoooH its old skool
Okay then take off the metering head and take it to a Bosch place for pressure testing, but could be just a vacuum leak somewhere on the engine? Or the injectors are blocked from shizztle.
