Thumping suspension
« on: 04 October 2013, 18:21 »
Anyone suffered the suspension or car sounding like it thumps from one road ridge or pot hole or road imperfections to another.

Mine sounds like I have uprated rock hard  suspension on a nova!

I think I suffered this a few years ago and the dealer just lubricated all the door seals and catches.

It feels like it crashes and bangs everywere and getting worse.

Check condition of springs and shocks, top mounts can also cause knocking.

Wouldnt think its anything related to the ARB or Droplinks as its very uncommon on the MK6.

Also console bushes can have a knock if failed, but again on a fairly new GTI its unlikely.

Had a knocking noise from the rear suspension on my car when driving on uneven road surfaces.  Shock absorbers were replaced by the dealer under warranty and problem solved.

I hope its not that. But it thuds like an old car does now on non smooth roads.
Were a while back it would just be a du du its a loud thud.
Driving slowly down a ridged concrete road were I often assess for suspension noises drop links,  shocks, antiroll bar bushes etc on my older cars it patters and no rattles.
I checked the springs last week too all intact.
But ridges were they have dug across the road and filled it or bridge expansion joints it really thuds bangs loudly. Were as before it was just a faintish du du noise. Its embarrassing if someone else is in the car.
Iirc it happened before a few years back I think the dealer just greased all the door catches and krytox all the rubber seals.
Whatever they did it more or less cured it. It wasnt as good and quiet as mkvikens for nvh but was exceptable.
But its back with a vengence and is pissing me off big style to the point im not using it and will use the leon to commute next week!
Really wish id never bought this car!!!!!!!!

Oh dear, must be annoying if its making you not drive it.

The shocks arent leaking at all are they?

Cant see how lubricating the door seals would affect it tbh..

If you dislike the car that much, why not get rid of it?

Because
. I really like the way it looks.
. I also like the way it drives when its behaving itself.
. The amount of money it will cost to change and I will have lost.
. Its only got 10k miles on so really not had my moneys worth.
. Ive not found anything I really like the look of this side of an R8!

Dampers not leaking even checked behind the ribbed dust covers.
I hope to get it on my lift in a few weeks to check it over better but at the moment my Daihatsu is stuck on there with the engine in bits.

It has some redeeming features then

An R8 drives past my house each day and leaves me drooling every time
