please can anybody tell me if after waiting more than  20 weeks for a new golf gti will the dealer provide me with a hire car.Thanks.

Yes, and no.

They don't count the 20 weeks from when any sane person would start counting (i.e. date of order).  They count it starting from the 19th of the month in which the order was accepted if I'm not mistaken.  Thus if you place an order on the 20th you're probably looking at 24 weeks.

That said if you've been waiting 20 weeks I'd just state that and ask for a car.  See what happens.  Could always remind them their assistance in this matter will be reflected in your customer satisfaction survey if they don't see it your way!

Give VW CS a call.

My 20 weeks (from order) passed last Friday, but was informed that the 20 weeks VW count from is tomorrow (i.e date order accepted at factory). That said, a bit of pushing from me, and VW did sort out a car for me yesterday and I can have the courtesy  car until delivery of my car to the dealership + 48 hours (the window they have to PDI).
