QUICK VOTE.. Engine out... New clutch?? Y/N
« on: 02 October 2013, 10:34 »
So really quick advice I have till this afternoon to decide, engine is being replaced should I do the clutch at the same time??

Price £350 extra
Mileage - 55,000
Model - mk6 GTI
Mods - none but do want to go stage 1

This is the clincher APR stage 1 would old clutch handle it, could a new clutch handle it or should I wait and save for a 3rd party sports/racing clutch!

Thanks in advance!

That's alot of extra money to be changing a clutch on a car thats already having its engine out. Very little extra labour involved.

Is it an uprated clutch, or DMF too?

Agreed price is expensive but it's at the stealers, engine is getting changed for free so not really in a bargaining position.

Andrew page has quoted £190 for the parts so this is VW mark up.

No DMF just clutch plate, cover & pressure plate.

I'm thinking just leave it and put the £350 towards possibly clutch upgrade in the future!

I'd still question the labour charges on the clutch given that fitting it would take 5 minutes with engine already out.

That was just parts! No labour. I have since decided that it just wasn't worth it considering the clutch is probably fine.

Thanks for the replies

I would have haggled and had it replaced, going to cost you a lot more to replace it in the future.

I think I was all out of haggling FREE engine & 50% of the labour for that repair.
