Correct Air Pressure For Non Standard Wheel/tyre Setup?
« on: 29 September 2013, 16:42 »
My brother has non standard alloys & tyre size on his VR6.

17" Porsche alloys with stretched 215/40 R17 tyres on them.

Looking at the fuel cap it says this:

Just wondering what the correct air pressure may be on this?

His rear tyre had in 10psi, now we know that's wrong.

The above photo suggests perhaps more than 2.9bar even based on the transition from R15 to R16 & i'm guessing it'd then increase when changing to R17?? No idea if the tyres being stretched would change anything??

But with 2.9bar being 42psi (sorry i've always worked in psi, not bar), isn't that really quite a lot?

Still, as those reading this will be more knowledgable than I ... what do you say?

Being stretched means they should need more air then standard but I ran 205/40/17's on mine and ran them all ok @ 32 all round.

I run 36 front and 32 rear.

That was 195/40/16 on 8"
and 195/45/16 on 9"

I was careful at first but I soon through it round the bends and never had a tyre come off the bead.

205/45x16 and run 32 front 30 rear

Snap,  any higher and ride becomes harsh.

On the 17 x 205/40's I used to run 30 front and 28 rear.

Same on the 215/40's too.
