Battery Cover
« on: 27 September 2013, 13:52 »
Afternoon Everybody,

New to the forum, BW45 though, we shall see how true that is.

Just a quick question regarding the battery cover, I know from my leon experiences that FR's got cloth covers and Cupra R's got plastic ones, but does the mk7 GTI have a cloth cover or plastic.

Reason I ask is i will be part ex'ing my leon and i'll be keeping my plastic cover/box and transferring it, unless they already come with one.

Just in case anyone is wondering, tried swapping the cloth for my plastic cover and it's the wrong size, doesn't fit, and by God is the battery heavy lol

Do not forget that the battery has now some new wiring of the regenerative braking thing (blame bluemotion technology). So it won't fit. Gone are the days of the first-cycle production mk5s which had plastic AND cloth. After that first bunch, cost-cutting became evident. Multi-link rear suspension was expensive eventually...

Not sure why having a plastic cover really mattered to anyone, but the cloth one will provide a little more insulation for the battery anyway, and it doesn't need to be in a waterproof polypropylene casing when it has the bonnet to put a roof over it's head. The battery is working harder than it ever has before, what with even more tech to drain it, stop-start tech, brake regeneration priorities determining when it will and won't be getting a dose of charging etc - no wonder they've been getting bigger.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Just aesthetics really, the cloth just looks out of place, but I'll tell myself I am weight saving
