Hi all.  Got a problem and not sure best way to go about it. Dropped golf off today at garage, no names mentioned! Had it lowered on coil overs, said I wanted it slammed but they fitted ones that left the car at the same height as it was when it went in. If not even higher at the back even when wound right down? I have had to remove the coil thread thing at the back to get it where it needs to be. Then when doing this noticed they have curbed both front and rear wheels on the near side and also the rear off side wheel. But I've bought it back home so there going to say I've done it. There is no chance of this as I've never Curbed them and could cry as I look after my wheels in a big way. Move pass side mirror to keep an eye on curbs the lot! They where mint like new genuine bbs LMRs. Does anyone have any advice on the lowering not been able to lower the rear to where I wanted it and the wheel issue before I go back tomorrow and get really angry at the lies I'm going to hear,?.

Also I didn't add the nuts on the threads on the front coil overs are touching the front tyres on the inside wall. I originally was going to go back tomorrow and get larger front spacers to sort this but after spotting the other issues thought I'd get advice on rear lowering first all I wanted was the tyres on the 18" wheels just under the arches is this possible with the right coil overs without taking stuff off the rear ones?

  • Scorpion Exhausts are delightful.
I know nothing about lowering buddy, but DEFINITELY get back to the garage and ask them about the curbing, thats bull sh*t. How much are those wheels?
I thought Volkswagens were supposed to be reliable?

I'm going to ring in the morning and give them the chance to admit it and see what they say. While I've got the car with the tyres rubbing they can't put it right and argue the wheels. The wheels are a lot of money per wheel and genuine ones are rare. I can't find any genuine ones for sale in the uk

There has already been some daft advice in this thread.

Firstly, the garage will wash their hands of the damage to the wheels especially if you didn't notice it when you picked the car up.

You'll struggle to tuck the rear tyres without removing the rear adjusters.

The front needs a 5mm spacer to prevent the rubbing, this is a common problem. You will also run into problems with the arb rubbing on the driveshaft if you lower the front more than 40-50mm.

As Dom has said you will struggle with the garage now you have taken the car away.

Hi All thanks for the replies.  Yes your where right i have struggled with the garage.  Firstly i was told i must of curbed 3 of my pristine wheels! Although its obvious i look after them by the condition and the conversation we had about them when i dropped it off.  Then he said the tyres were not rubbing the adjusters? Ive fitted spacers myself this morning so thats sorted.  Then ive removed the rear adjusters my self to get it where i asked it to be. But in all fairness he did say he is not aloud to do that by law.  not sure about that but there you go.  as for the drive shaft rubbing ive fitted a whiteline ARB today so thats sorted. Only issue now is i cant go too low on the front due to the spacer putting the wheel further out and it touching the arch when cornering.  Im thinking air is the way forward!
