Turbo Issue
« on: 25 September 2013, 11:33 »
Hi Folks,

This may be a one off, but drove my car to work as normal with no issues this morning. Went to drive it again an hour ago, and the turbo was not spooling. Was basically driving like a 1.8. The car was driving fine, no misfire, no management lights and the idle was fine too. Took it for a quick blast and nothing - no turbo.

Stopped and turned the car off, turned it back on, and its spooling again as normal. This has only happened once since I got the car which was this morning.

Had a quick look at the engine as my cover is off, and nothing is sticking out like a sore thumb and sounded to be running spot on. Can't see/hear any leaks either.

Any ideas on this one, or should I stop worrying?

Wierd one.

I take it that the golf can still record fault codes and not bring the management light up?

YEah, it was like someone took the plug out and stuck it back in lol. Night and day.

My car is a stock AUQ except from N249 bypass and the engine is in good health with no smoke. I am going to change my DV to a new one as I suspect that if it was sticking, it would stop it from boosting due to lack of vaccum?

Thanks (good to know it not just me lol).

I would get rid of the standard dv as they are crap best off going for a forge 007p or the 008..
I would check all your hoses for splits the  y shape breather hose on mine split slso the pipes under the inlet wernt great so i changed the lot for silicon hoses.i think mine is leaking the intercooler side
Search for 17705 on here and you will find lots of people had or had it

Is the Y one, the one thats runs from the right handside of the head towards the turbo.

Changed the ones underneath the inlet before. Deff can't hear any leaks, as I have small tears before which could be heard. Don't think it would be enough to through into limp mode if there is any. Like I said the engine sounds sweet.

Also changed the thermostat last week as it was buggered (through up ECU map fault). I never cleared the code via vagcom (as I didn't have my l/top at time time). But when changing the thermostat I left the batt disconnected. I would have thought this would have be surfice to remove the codes/faults.

I will get it on vagcom tonight when I get home.

Went out a few mins ago, started the car and all seems to be fine.

The 17705 code can often be a ghost code. Mine appears every now and then and i've never found a boost leak. It does occasionally trip the EML and stick it into limp mode, but I can live with that. These cars are quite sensitive, and jump into limp mode for as little as moving the seat back too quickly. Scan it, see what it says, and maybe if you really want, get the pipework tested at a garage for a boost leak.
I thought Volkswagens were supposed to be reliable?

as said check for codes and a leak test.

when first got my car it would go into soft limp mode due to a split breather hose which was the Y shape one top right from the engine block.
