Main dealer service centre worrying me!
« on: 24 September 2013, 17:05 »
Just got off the phone with a local main dealer close to me who has my car (2010 DSG 5 door). I've had an ongoing engine rattle that I started a thread about a while ago and all signs pointed toward it being the dual mass fly wheel. Also asked them to add a cruise control stalk and add a bluetooth unit to my RNS 510.

Their 'master technician' has reported that a DSG Gti doesn't have a dual mass fly wheel.
They can't add a bluetooth box as they don't do that and suggested an entirely new Kenwood stereo to replace my RNS 510. I offered to read out the part number of the box I need but they said they can't install it.
They don't know if they can get a cruise control stalk or not. Also don't think they can re-code a new stalk but will let me know.

I think I'm about ready to explode!

Erm...lol

Take it to another dealer or ring VWUK and explain what's been going on and see what they say.

There are 3rd party installers that could do the Bluetooth and Cruise Control installs.

My dealer has those same Kenwood units on display, so I can only assume there's good margin in them.

Actually no, the margin is marginal.
I had the Kenwood unit fitted a month ago.
I shopped around all the VW dealers within 100 miles or so to try and play them against each other.

Managed to get it all in for £1000

Bluetooth can't officially be retro fitted as the wiring is part of the cars loom. All cars have their own bespoke loom from the factory depending on spec. So when the dealer looks up the parts, the computer will tell him that they are not compatible with your cars chassis number.

The third party kits that many of us have fitted use an aftermarket piggy back wiring harness that just plugs into the radio loom and has another wire to the mic. They still require coding to tell the car bluetooth is fitted, but that is just a case of ticking a box on VCDS. If all you want is bluetooth, you'll get that job done for £250, not the £1000 that the dealers will rob from you for the Kenwood.

As for cruise control, I'm pretty sure it's listed as a dealer fit accessory, so there should be no issues with that.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

More worrying than the bluetooth and cruise was the master tech saying the DSG doesn't have a dual mass flywheel.

I had spoken to an independent fitter about the cruise/bt, I think its probably best I pursue that route now. I really can't handle this engine rattle though. I need a REAL mechanic. I get the feeling all they want to deal with is basic services and mot's etc..

I'd drive 2 hours radius from London to go see someone who knew what they were talking about. All I need is wifi and I'm nice for hours :)
