I think I've got tracker paranoia!
« on: 24 September 2013, 09:43 »
As the title says, I think I'm going paranoid with regards to the online tracker. I'm build week 36, but for the last two weeks it's been showing build in progress.

It's got so bad, that the tracker is my home page at home and at work. I've even got a icon on my iPhone linked to the tracker!

It's not uncommon to wake in the middle of the night and check if the tracker has moved  I've even checked it in the middle of typing this post

It's nearly 6 months since I placed the GTD order and I'm seriously not impressed with my first VW experience. I just want my car

Hold on Sam! I honestly think your tracker is incorrect. It's a common thing for the tracker to show build in progress and then jumping to in transit. In fact I seen a 3 door GTD / GTI going to Belfast this morning! ;-)

I hope it's incorrect Valenni and my car is on its way. I think that GTD may be for the salesman!

You might find your far from alone in your tracker obsession Sam!

There is a bit of a theory running on here though.  It seems like with the hailstorm VW are running about 2 weeks behind on build.  Only they don't want to admit this.  It looks like the tracker is designed to auto roll over to "build in progress" and then 2 weeks later to "in transit" regardless of if this information is accurate.  That or they are doing it deliberately anyway.  I'm not sure why they'd design it like that, maybe its in case of some failure with whatever procedure they use to update it.  In any case, its not exactly trustworthy right now.

We know the VW dealers can interface with the factory and get a much more detailed update.  What beats me is why they don't just have the tracker read this information and show a more accurate position in the build.  I'm sure that would be much easier for them to implement and maintain.  I can only assume they believe there is some benefit to hiding information from the customer (that can then be acquired via the dealer anyway).  Either they've massively underestimated the negative impact of customers being left in the dark or there is something they really really don't want customers to see!

The theory is probably correct Bill! I did email the dealer on Monday morning and he said to leave it for a few days to see if the tracker updated. He did say that in his experience, the tracker would say "build in progress" with the car already shipped and en route to the dealership.

VW could learn so much from your BMW customer experience. Can't believe your car was delivered so quickly from ordering, especially since it was a bespoke order. Lovely car by the way and colour looks fantastic. I'm sure you are enjoying the driving experience

Im sure the tracker is there  as a game  and not for  real usage
my build week was 37  half way through the week it went straight to car in transit bypassing the build stage on the tracker .
it now tells me Im 3 weeks away from  delivery ie  still on the docks in germany
yet my dealer  told me Monday morning my car was in the country and gave me the code to activate my 7 day insurance from Friday .
So don't put too much trust in the tracker

Sam - To give you some comfort in knowing you are not the only one.  My car is also Build Week 36, my Build in progress is still showing Build in Progress.  I contacted my dealer and they say the car went in to build last thursday 19/09/13 and is at checkpoint one of the build.  I would suggest contacting your dealer.  I am now awaiting the Tracker to roll over to IN Transit by end of the week.  If it does not I will contact my dealer again and ask if it has been built and in transit.

Hope this helps

I think the only thing we can confidently say is that the tracker is absolute pony!!

Bill I tend to agree with you in that VW must have something to hide or it would be one uniformed system for dealers and customers with different levels of access. My order (BW37) still says "build in progress" and has been like that since the end of w/c 08/09 but the dealership called me today to say on their system it shows that my car is in the 3rd stage of the 8 stage build process.

There really is no apparent consistency to the things VW does!!

Hi Brenbo...glad it's just not me. The dealer phoned me on the 11th September to say that my GTD was at checkpoint one! I think VW are trying to herd up the cows to make my leather seats!

I'm expecting a dealer call tomorrow.
