Alloy Wheel Insurance

What are your views guys on the insurance for alloy wheel damage offered by the dealer?

I was not going to take it out, but this car is going to be mainly driven by the Mrs and she reminded me today that the only wheels that she has ever damaged have been all 4 of my 18" on the MK5 GT Sport 

As a reminder it's a £250 one off payment or 10 off at £25, cover is for 3 years with a maximum of 10 repairs.

Those wheels don't look cheap to repair!

Are you likely to damage the wheels 5 times in 3 years? Or how much do they cost to repair. If they cost £100 a pop to repair (and they might as they are diamond cut) then it seems a reasonable deal. I've kerbed one wheel in a year and a half, but then I hardly ever parallel park!

Might be worth shopping around. If GAP is anything to go by, you can get half the price the dealers offer by going elsewhere.

Good point MH, I have just had an initial search and you can get GAP and Wheels for £300, going to dig deeper tonight, noticed that most of these companies won't do just wheels, you are required to take GAP also, will continue searching now while Mrs watches X Factor

If you haven't all ready, have a look at Ala - they had an option to add alloy cover to the GAP insurance when I sorted mine out (I didn't take up the option however).

Yeah I saw that website, found quite a few for about £180 that cover wheels, dents, scratches and chips

If this is anything like the JLR cover, then it's for smart repairs only ?  You may as well forget smart repairs on a diamond cut wheel in my opinion......

Yeah good point, most of these websites show the before and after pictures of a normal type alloy, nothing like the GTI wheel, might just be cheaper to teach the Mrs how to park

I'm finding the same, I presume the alloy wheel insurance sold by VW will cover VW wheels
