Car keeps dying
« on: 19 September 2013, 18:56 »
Just taken my mk 4 GTI to Asda and had the scariest drive of my life so far!
The car kept turning off whenever I wasn't accelerating, at the beginning it was only in traffic however it did it round a roundabout and also coming out of a junction.
The car has been sitting for a while, on the way there it wasn't so bad and sat comfortably at about 500rpm but then on the way back it just kept dying.
It would be worth mentioning the cars rev do bounce around and then drop.
Have been told it could be the air box as it is after market? Have cleaned out the throttle body but revs still bounce about. Also been told it could be the throttle bottle itself.
Have read that most cast scenarios it is the coilpack ?
I have tried to be as specific if I remember anything I will add
oh on Monday I am going to get it connected to a laptop and checked over
Just wondering could anyone help me out and point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance

Just unclips. You'll find it located on the turbo intake pipe from the air filter

Sweet. thank you, if it runs better without it would you recommend just cleaning it and then putting it back or put a new one?

New one. Cleaning it just delays the inevitable or in some cases speeds up its demise!

And a new one from the dealers, not a reconditioned one from gsf etc. It won't last long otherwise
