Not on a golf but on another stainless steel exhaust (on my Astra VXR) I have used satin black barbecue paint on the tailpipe and it look great. You would need to rough up the tailpipes to key the surface though or it may just peel off.

You can get black exhaust tips for the vwr exhaust. I'm looking at buying this very exhaust with the ceramic black tips. What's your opinion on the exhaust overall??

It was on when i bought the car - but overall its a nice system and not too loud for normal use, buts sounds nice when it gets opened up.
From my point i have 100mm tips in stainless, but they look a little big for my taste, so thats why i am considering painting black to blend in with the diffuser.
