Leon 2.0tdi 184ps - views?
« on: 18 September 2013, 13:32 »
What are people's views on the new leon 2.0tdi (184ps)?

I'm gonna go test drive the 1.8tsi at the weekend as they don't have a 2.0tdi in, just wandering if anyone has had the chance to drive the 184 version of the tdi and what they thought of it?

Cheers!

Same as mk7 GTD I guess? Loads of torque and great MPG.

I thought the mk7 gtd was 170? £30 a year road tax beats £240 anyway! If its the same as the golf, do you know if the difference between the 150 and 184 is hardware or software? The dealers had no idea!

Also what realistic mpg can I expect? They always say higher!

As for the differences between the 150 and 184PS engines, I would suggest that they are hardware. Historically they have been different. 130-150 in the Mk4, 140-170PD in the Mk5 and 140-170CR in the Mk6 were all mechanically different.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Cheers for that, it would seem that's the case, a little disappointing the dealer doesn't even know though when they sell them!

The dealer's selling a car, not geeking out on cross-brand engine detail differences!
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

It shouldn't be too much to expect a certain amount of product knowledge from a salesman surely? Most car salesmen that I have dealt with have very little enthusiasm about the cars they sell. They may as well be selling a block of cheese. All they seem to want to do is tuck you up into a finance package that would earn them the most commission.

When I bought my Passat, I went in and sat down to begin my negotiations. I had nothing to part exchange and cash (debit card) to pay with. It was a case of, You've got the car, I've got the money, lets have a deal. The salesman seemed completely out of his depth when faced with such a simple proposition.

SEAT salesmen go on SEAT courses, VW salesmen go on VW courses.  I am still confused why you would expect one to know about the other's products.

As you've pointed out - they just want to flog you the finance.  The car is merely a by-product of the finance sale.

We know about VW's and SEAT's because we are interested enough to go and find out. Salesmen have no interest in the products they sell, therefore don't know jack about anything. It's a pity really. If salesmen had as much enthusiasm as we do, it would make the whole buy buying experience much more enjoyable.

Most people don't want to know the inside leg measurement of the engine. They want to know whether it has sat-nav, if it plays MP3s and has Bluetooth and what colours it is in.

It is far more important that salesmen can schmooze customers than talk the technical talk.

Disgusting to us nerds and hackers as that may seem.
