Anyone tinting the driver/passenger windows?

Since the GTI comes with privacy glass on the rear windows, is anyone thinking of getting the front driver/passenger ones done to match?

Does anyone know what the percentage tint on the rears is, I think the law for driver/passenger is to allow 75% of the light through so only a 25% tint.

Perhaps that is what they are standard but just the contrast with the rears makes them seem fairly clear?

IIRC the tints on the front are already at the maximum permitted.

Standard rears on the GTI/GTD are 65% light absorbing from the B pillar backwards.

I know on the Scirocco, there is also the option of specifying 90% light absorbing, heat insulating glass, but don't know if it's filtered down to the Golf yet ?

Had it done by the dealer's at a price of $400 (~€300) with lifetime warranty. People squint whenever they try to see me inside so I'd reckon it's pretty dark in the day as well, even at close distance. It gets frustrating though when you wave hello to someone or when you show irritation from someone else's driving without them seeing you

That looks awesome VWcez! Wish we could do that in the UK. Although I do often wonder if all windows (minus windscreen of course) were tinted another x% if the police would try to pull you for it as there would still be a noticeable difference between the front and back and therefore might appear that the fronts aren't actually tinted more than the limit?

Thank you! And yes certainly so! As my dealer also stated, having the fronts slightly less darker than the rear windows does create an illusion that it is still within the limit due to darker windows in the back. It also has a slight shade of green which makes it look like the glass itself is that dark or the way the sun hits the glass. To be honest, it is illegal here as well and I've seen a bunch of people get pulled over right in front of me due to illegal tint but most of them, if not all, get their car's tinted by 3rd party retailers that do awful jobs for a low price and concludes in tint that looks like a blacked out funhouse mirror! I would've been pulled over by now if it actually looked over the limit so I guess I'm safe . What's the penalty for illegal tint in the UK? Over here it's either a $900 ticket or they just peel it off.

This is the government warning online...

"Penalties for having wrongly tinted windows:
It’s illegal to fit or sell glass (or a vehicle already fitted with glass) that breaks the rules on tinted windows.

The police or DVSA vehicle examiners use light measuring equipment to measure window tint.

If your windscreen or front side windows are tinted too much you could get:

a ‘prohibition notice’ stopping you using your vehicle on the road until you have the extra tint removed
a penalty notice or court summons"

It possibly depends on the mood of whoever pulls you over!
