Hi folks,
I wonder if anyone has come across the same or similar problem that I am currently experiencing with my beloved Golf GTi Edition 30 DSG?
The car is an 08 plate with 62k miles and has developed a strange intermittent rubbing sound almost a squeak (but not a squeak)....if that makes sense. It mainly happens when the steering wheel is turned in either direction at low speeds <35mph (at roundabouts etc) and seems like its the front tyres rubbing or something rubber rubbing on the steering/moving parts. It is not a continual noise and squeaks rather like a buckled bike wheel rubbing against the brake blocks on a push bike.
The noise can be quite noticeable on certain journeys and on others you can't hear it at all. It is not governed by dry or wet weather or whether the journey is short or long or whether the car is used a lot or parked up for days at a time.
It is not a metal on metal sound or a rattle.....it sounds like rubber on metal or rubber on rubber. I am reasonably sure that the tyres aren't touching the wing liner and no signs of any rubbing are evident on the tyre edges/side walls. The wheel bearings have no play and the CV joint boots are all intact.
ANY IDEAS PLEASE???
Many thanks in anticipation of any pointers
