Hi, my wife went to start the car this morning but as soon as she starts it up the coolant level warning light comes up on the dash telling her to stop and check the owners manual, so I have checked the level and it's fine, it's between the min and max. I've had a look in the manual but doesn't really say much so thought ill put it out there and see if any of you have had the same problem! The car in question is a mk5 golf GTtdi. Thanks in advance for your input

Take the sensor plugs off (should be one on the coolant expansion bottle), make sure it looks clean and corrosion free. If it's not loosing coolant it could be a failed sensor which will need replacing.

9/10 times a quick check of the connections removes the problems. :-)

No worries. Always worth spraying some WD40 or some lithium based grease in there too, to make sure there is no moisture or other containments blocking the signal. If the light returns, then consider a sensor change and check the wiring for damage.

Yeah, its a common problem for these sensors to go. If the problem happens again get it replaced. The main thing is you aren't losing coolant.
