Bled the brakes again. Odd spongy pedal now and again, mainly under gentle gradual braking. A few bubbles came out of each caliper. Fingers crossed its sorted as it MOT time on friday!

MOT passed yesterday and minor service too! Also had to renew my insurance at the end of last year, Admiral came in cheapest with mods declared (only lowering springs) at £600 for the year. Not too bad on a multicover but comparison websites, the cheapest I was finding were in the thousands! What has happened to insurance prices lately?

Hi All,

Having an issue with my 2013 GTI mk7 PP these days and I've been searching for the cause for a while but couldn't find any solutions so far.
This Thursday morning I had the coolant warning red light on my dash and when I checked the reservoir the coolant was way below the minimum level. Topped up with oem g13 and drove maybe 15 miles during the day always checking the level but no issues. Next morning same thing happened, warning light and very low level. This morning before starting the car the level was below minimum again. I can't find any leak on the usual spots like water pump and thermostat housing. Couldn't see any leaks near the turbo as well.
I had my alternator changed on Wednesday and I was wondering if the guy who changed it might have messed with the coolant hoses that are on the way but they seem to be fine.
Does anyone had experienced any coolant level dropping that much this fast without spotting any leak?
Car is not overheating, didn't lose any power and is not mixing water with oil as well.
Had the thermostat housing and waterpump replaced in Jun 2023 with 60k miles so I don't think this could be the issue.
Car is currently with 75k miles and I have a service booked on Wednesday but want to make sure I can at least know what to look for.
Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

Any misfires when starting first thing after it's been stood a while, alot of white smoke/steam from the tailpipes??

Lift up the mats in the front footwells and check the carpets not damp??

Car starts normal, no smokes at all neither misfires. Running perfectly. There must be a leak that I can't find.
I will take it for a short drive to the supermarket now and investigate if I can find anything with the engine warmed up.

Went for a drive and tried to open the expansion tank cap and noticed that there was no pressure at all. Cap unscrewed like if the car was parked overnight.
Couldn't find any leaks or smell anything wrong except the cap.

Have you got dried coolant residue around where the cap fits?
Mine used to get the sweet hot smell of coolant and I suspected the thermostat / pump but all appeared ok. I did have residue around the cap so changed it and smell gone away.
If there is no pressure, I suspect the cap may be faulty - cheap potential solution to try out.

Finally found the leak! Lifted up the car this morning and took the undertray off. It was dripping from the back of expansion tank on the frame. Getting an OEM tank and cap ordered now and that should sort it. Happy days!
