Honesty from the very beginning probably would have resulted in customers such as Bill bot cancelling possibly.

We all make mistakes..... its how you deal with them that counts

Its hard to know now what "would have happened" but I think that if when I originally started discussing the GTI with VW they had said it will be a six month wait then I would have planned for that and it would have been fine.  That or I would have decided to wait and place an order when lead times were shorter...

But....you've saved money getting the 1 series and you've got a quicker car.  All good experience for your R order though!

When do the order books open for the R again?  Who fancies calling VWEO and saying "So, are you sure the factory is ready?  Have you checked?  Have you double checked?"  Better yet lets all call them one by one and give them the sarky attitude. heh heh heh. :smug:

Ok fine I know I know... bad Bear.  Forgiveness not vengeance, forgiveness not vengeance.

Dealers are guilty of over promising on expected delivery dates.
My dealer went through the mk 6 launch so he knew the score, expected delivery Aug/early Sept.

Actual delivery was early July. He was surprised so was I, but he didn't over promise which many seem to have done.

Ok, so the VWEO have been on the phone to me.  Had a good chat and he's promised my car will be on a boat by latest Weds, and is looking at me to pick it up w/c 23rd Sep.  Still a bit of a wait but not too long to go now, hopefully.

He did tell me something very interesting though - the reason for the delays.  Now forget all the bs we've been told, this is what he said (which he said he can tell me now as I'm not cancelling ):  Basically, its as simple as the UK marketing team opened the books too early.  They were told by the factory that the factory wasn't ready to accept orders as they didn't have the components etc - but the UK decided to go ahead and press on with opening the books and marketing the car.  Hence the flimsy brochure for example - the factory couldn't give them the information as they didn't have it, but the UK arm pressed forward to get 'something' out.  Same with the orders, the factory literally couldn't cope with the number of new orders.

Quite why they couldn't say this in the first place is beyond me.  I would have accepted this reason as a marketing f7ck up, and dealt with the wait because I wanted the car, instead of listening to varying degress of bullsh!t for the last 5 months!

Not sure I believe what they told you TBH, the factory accepted my order on 5th April (got my tracker number 30th March). The factory could've waited a month extra to accept my order as a way of delaying, to get a hold of the components.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I think they just go off what VWUK tell them.  Some of the smarter ones perhaps realise what is going to happen and give their customers more realistic estimates but I believe the problem is essentially that VWUK aren't very competent.  Since their customer service really sucks balls I'm not that surprised.  I think VWUK understand maybe 2% or 3% of what there is to know about customer service.  They seem to think that having someone who answers a phone and who speaks with somewhat polite "official" sounding words means they've basically done the job.  In car terms this is like drawing a concept picture of your new model and thinking that you've "released" a new model successfully.  You got a lot more to do than just that son.
