Reason for Delays

Ok, so the VWEO have been on the phone to me.  Had a good chat and he's promised my car will be on a boat by latest Weds, and is looking at me to pick it up w/c 23rd Sep.  Still a bit of a wait but not too long to go now, hopefully.

He did tell me something very interesting though - the reason for the delays.  Now forget all the bs we've been told, this is what he said (which he said he can tell me now as I'm not cancelling  ):  Basically, its as simple as the UK marketing team opened the books too early.  They were told by the factory that the factory wasn't ready to accept orders as they didn't have the components etc - but the UK decided to go ahead and press on with opening the books and marketing the car.  Hence the flimsy brochure for example - the factory couldn't give them the information as they didn't have it, but the UK arm pressed forward to get 'something' out.  Same with the orders, the factory literally couldn't cope with the number of new orders.

Quite why they couldn't say this in the first place is beyond me.  I would have accepted this reason as a marketing f7ck up, and dealt with the wait because I wanted the car, instead of listening to varying degress of bullsh!t for the last 5 months!

Basically, yes.  I understand why they kept it quiet as they're admitting their UK marketing department f7cked up and rushed its release - but if they'd have only said that from the beginning they could have saved us all a load of hassle.  But then if they had told us that then people may have said f7ck this I'm off to buy a beemer....! 

Still, at least we know now.  I expect those awaiting build to still look at a 2 week delay while the factory catches up.  But at least everyone knows its got nowt to do with pano roof, rear camera etc etc, its just that they are playing catch up.

It just really pisses me off that every time I had a call from Lisa or one of these other VWEO customer service people and they said things like "don't know what is the delay", "will definitely be confirmed next week", "oh its because of a shortage of cameras", "oh you ordered DSG thats probably why its delayed" etc etc etc they knew damn well what the problems were and they were lying to me.  Total fatherless sons.

I was straight to them all along and very polite.  I only had one conversation with them where I allowed my irritation to show and that was the one where I said I was cancelling and they got all arsey and tried to make out I was being unreasonable.  Companies who behave like this should be going out of business, but I guess they are "too big to fail".

Do you think this is grounds for miss-selling?

my car was on build week 37  all week looked this morning it went straight to in transit stage  never went into the build cycle stage 
,I  contacted my dealer they confirmed its in transit and will arrive in 3 weeks

There are some lucky ones physio who get through on time!!  But there are more that have been delayed, unfortunately.

Who knows Bear, they would only deny it - after all, a phone call isn't evidence - he would just deny he said anything to me.  But yes, she was talking sh!te to you - but bottom line is you've got a better car out of it (don't care what anyone says, the M135i is a better car, bar the looks) so happy days!

And hey, when you're bored of that and I'm bored of my GTI we can both order the R and go through the same process all over again!

haha yes!  I still wish I could get the wife a basic spec GTI.  Might take a while for the annoyance to die down enough for that though... also she wants a smart car instead to make it easy to find parking spaces.

  You need to sort that out!!  Tell her about the GTI front & rear parking sensors fitted as standard, that will sort her out when parking!

Its hard to know now what "would have happened" but I think that if when I originally started discussing the GTI with VW they had said it will be a six month wait then I would have planned for that and it would have been fine.  That or I would have decided to wait and place an order when lead times were shorter...
