Mk 7 Launch vs Mk 6 Launch
« on: 12 September 2013, 14:41 »
Not sure where to post this whinge, so feel free to delete it Jimble - but I need to get this off my chest (and my wife is likely to punch me if I moan anymore to her! )

So I thought I'd check back at my posts on here from 2009 to see the exact dates I ordered and took delivery of my mk 6 GTI given the mk 6 ordering debacle - and to my surprise/horror/outrage these were the results:

Ordered - 4th May
Took Delivery - 3rd September

Given this time around its:

Ordered - 8th April
Estimated Delivery - 27th September

To say I'm raging is an understatement.  F7cking VW

Sorry for the whinge but this place is therapy

Dunno if anyone has heard of "Valve Time" (https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time) but could certainly have something similar for VW! heh heh

Anyway, I have a suspicion that since the mk6 didn't sell as well as they thought it would they scaled back expectations for the mk7, which has proved a mistake.  Or maybe they just don't give a damn.  I know I know, its probably the second reason. :undecided:

I'd hate to think what my dates would be.  I ordered my Mark 6 on 28 February and took delivery on 29th October.  Perhaps I would order a Mark 8 and end up getting a Mark 9.

VW are making the same mistakes over and over.  They just don't learn (and, worse, don't appear to care).  It must be the best place in the world to work: you can be thoroughly, utterly incompetent and still keep your job.

this was the same fiasco when the Scirocco came out, especially if you wanted xenons, i'm glad we've hung fire on the mk7 GTI for the wife and waited to see the R for me

what they don't seem to grasp is people have cars on lease that need to go back, cars to sell privately and PX values etc etc

That was not bad going. You were lucky with the mk6 unlike this lot

A lot ended up waiting 7 months for their mk6.

From what i can recall i only waited 12 weeks for my MK6 GTI. As for the MK 7 i waited roughly 25 weeks.
Golfgti build quality is average at best.

Ordered my mk6 GTD mid Nov 2010. Took delivery mid July 2011; almost exactly 8 months

I was aware of the delays when I ordered, thanks to the many posts on the subject on the Mk6 forum, so my expectations were well and truly managed. My dealer had indicated a late March / early April 2011 delivery; wildly optimistic!

My previous car; mk5 GT Golf took roughly 2 months from date of order to taking delivery.

2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

I'm still staggered at how quick mine was from order date to collection (12 weeks) considering the delays that the majority on here are facing
