When to order GTI?
« on: 12 September 2013, 12:43 »
I'm planning on ordering a GTI to replace my current company car (Scirocco) for which the lease ends on 5th May 2014.

I need the car to arrive as close to this date as possible but after reading some of the horror stories on here I'm not sure when to order it. I'm thinking around the end of November as VW and most leasing brokers are quoting me 20 weeks for delivery from now but I'm not so sure how realistic that is.

Probable spec:
5 door
Manual
Performance pack
Park assist
Discover Nav (basic)
Night Blue metallic paint

Has anyone got any advice? When would you order yours to arrive on 5th May?

I have been waiting 23 weeks and my car is still sitting in a car park in Emden.  Read into that what you will.

Order it now - let the dealer know you want it on 5th May.

I might look into that. I managed to borrow one for a day from my local dealer when my Scirocco went in for a service and he mentioned he had loads of space so could keep it there for me. It just depends whether I can get a good enough deal from him to get it to fit in my budget.

The only problem is that my work aren't that keen on me ordering it early and when I mentioned ordering it in November they were a bit skeptical at that!

One would expect (hope) that the ordering delays would have cleared up a lot by May.  I'd *guess* 20 weeks.

So is it impossible to order get the order going without involving work, I have no idea how that works!  Don't know why they'd be so upset about ordering early... but then these kinds of things do seem to induce an irrational reluctance amongst some kinds of departments.  Anything they're not used to and they're like bloody kids haha.

Out of interest why is this the best chance to get a good deal?  Is this VW's end of financial year?

Because everyone is either dragging their arse round the sales, sat at home suffering the in-laws or laid on the carpet with a massive headache wishing they were dead.
Very quiet time for car dealers.

Hmm, ok.

I would have assumed that they would be expecting that and would have reduced expectations for sales as a result, but I've never tried to buy in this period so I know nothing.
