TDI 130 Tuning Options
« on: 06 September 2013, 13:25 »
I'm thinking of picking up a 1.9 TDI 130 soon, possibly in A3 form but I'm wondering other than getting it remapped which I've researched an saw figures of around 180bhp and a big increase in torque, is there anything else I can do to push it over 200bhp? I'm guessing they aren't as tunable as the 1.8t but I want the fuel economy of the derv where possible.

Cheers!

Full turbo back Milltek decat exhaust system, panel filter in the box, EGR delete, PD150 turbo and a good front mount will see over 200bhp with a custom remap, it's then just a case of how long your clutch lasts.
To be fair, if you drive it properly ie no loading it up at low speeds in the wrong gear a d bringing the torque on string you'll be ok...bought mine just over a year ago, lad said it had clutch judder, it's actually the dual mass shaking under load, but only ever had it happen once since I've had it coz I use the gearbox properly!!

The TDI's are definately the best of both worlds and I wouldn't have anything else

Thanks for the reply  Did the PD150 use a bigger turbo then? Are the turbos the same as on the 1.8T's? K04s etc? How many miles has yours clocked up when you had it mapped?

Yes the 150 used a bigger turbo

Turbos are totally different as they use variable vane technology

Maybe not as tuneable but they dont have the headaches of the 1.8T's.

And find me a 1.8T that can get over 500 miles to a tank with spirited driving

Yeah I've just had a look into it, I would have to pick one up and get it serviced along with an fmic and then get it mapped to all work together.

Do they really return that kind of mileage to a tank? I've currently got a 1.6 mk4 and I average about 29-30mpg.

My 130 would do 500 miles to a tank without trying

Even my Audi gives roughly the same return  :smug:
