accelerator pedal click
« on: 06 September 2013, 11:39 »
I'm sure I read about this on here before, but have any new GTI owners here (manual gearbox) noticed that there's a little click in the accelerator pedal... i.e. press it around 3/4 of the way down, then you feel a click and you can press it to the floor then.

I'm wondering what, if any, purpose it serves in a manual car? I think in DSG cars it forces the box to drop to a lower gear thereby allowing you rev the nuts off it - for a quick overtaking for example.

I'm sure there were a few manual mk6's that had DSG pedals fitted, not sure why though? I think Snoopy mentioned his car had one.

The dealer mentioned to me that the pedal had this built in but if im being honest ive yet to experience it. I've not really done any spirited driving up to now as still kind of just easing the car in. Like you i can't see what the purpose of it could be unless it gives you an extra burst of torque boost or something to that effect once you floor it?

Its for when you have the speed limiter on, it allows you to override the limit if you need to (over taking).

Imagine pulling out to overtake and getting stuck at  a previously set 60mph.

I've got a mk7 se until my GTD arrives in December. It has the click down on the accelerator pedal. You can still override the acc without having to click it down. I'm not sure really what's its for but it can be a bit of a distraction when you need to accelerate fast and change gear....

Noticed this felt more like 7/8th of pedal travel to access full power, wondered why but dent really detract as you never really needed full beans given the torque

I assume you mean ADC,  I am talking about the speed limiter.
