Service due, or is it?
« on: 05 September 2013, 10:18 »
Not Mk6 Golf related, but still could be relevant. I bought my 2011 Passat just over 6 months ago from VW with 19,000 miles on the clock. It was "fully" serviced when as part of the deal as it was an Approved Used car.

Last week after a the service indicator came on at 29,000 miles, so I called into the dealer to get a price seeing as I was passing. The girl at the desk informed me that I would need a major service as all they do with their sales cars is an oil and filter change and a so many point check over. According to my service book, they had used Longlife oil, but she told me that they wouldn't have done that, so after 10,000 miles it would need at least a lube service. I questioned a bit further about what the car would have had at 19,000 miles if it had had a full service. She was getting a bit confused by this as she seemed to be only programmed to book cars in. The service manager came over and told me that my car would have had Longlife oil as that is standard practice for cars with DPFs and the only difference between the full service and the one it had was a pollen filter. We both agreed that as the car had Longlife oil and the mileage I was doing was within the guidelines for variable servicing, providing I was happy managing without a fresh pollen filter, all was good.

So with a quick reset of the service indicator on the MFD, I'm all good for another 6 months or so, by which time I know It will be due a major service along with a DSG oil change. In the mean time, I could have been relieved of £250 odd, but that is still firmly staying put in my pocket.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
