Actually Craig, my current white Golf always looks crap because we seem to have a major problem with bee poo. Google it if you want to know what I mean. I always thought the little yellow blobs were pollen, now I know differently...

I have never heard that one before but I believe what you say. Fortunately for us up north, the bees don't much fancy the cold so there's not been many buzzing about.

I'm not massively into detailing and wouldn't ever attempt to use a DA polisher on my car but I firmly believe in keeping the car looking as good as possible so I try and wash it pretty much every week and if required ill wax it twice a year. At the end of the day your always going to pick up some minor scratches and stone chips which are impossible to remove (without professional assistance), its inevitable. However, if you do your best to keep your car looking good, not only do you feel good when driving it but you will also be rewarded through a better valuation when it comes time to sell it.

Hello DougL I'm with you regarding the appeal of red as a colour if well presented, having just sold my Civic Type R GT in 'Milano red' I never failed to stop and admire how good it looked when cleaned and gleaming! We also have Bee poo problem mostly on my white van (so who cares)! Our neighbour keeps Bee's and tells me they don't like white, Hmm? Anyhow new Gti on order, Tornado red, anyone know a good detailing company in Norfolk area, near King's Lynn, would like to get car off to best start and have it detailed at dealer. Cheers

Why does it need to be different and stand out?  Just playing devils advocate.

Colour is so personal and subjective that nothing is 100% right. we'd all be driving biege if that was the case.

Well, I'm 100% right in my decision, but others may not agree with it for a number of different reasons! ;)

I know white is popular but, is red that rare?

Not really!  I passed a red Mk7 Golf just on the way into the office this morning, and a red Focus, and a red Astra...oh, and a red tractor!

It is around Newcastle. It’s about 40% white, 10% metallic blue, 20% metallic greys (all shades inc silver), 10% Copper metallic or Burgundy metallic (all from Jukes – massive amount of Jukes around Newcastle and Sunderland, presumably due to Sunderland Nissan plant workers and people “buying local”), and then everything else makes up the difference (reds, greens, yellows).

I would say that 2/3 of the Golfs and Sciroccos in my area are white, with most of the others being pearl black or metallic grey. Apart from the Jukes brightening things up, the Newcastle car spectrum (especially VWs) is pretty monochrome.
