Loss of power / nearly stalling
« on: 28 August 2013, 22:09 »
Hi guys, not been here for a while as I've been busy elsewhere.
But thought I'd come back for some help.

Recently on a trip down to Somerset, I thought I would check the air filter to see if it was feeling excessively hot as I don't have a heat shield around it.
Upon opening the bonnet, I saw that the air filter had slipped off the silicone reducer and was not even doing anything.
So I got the screwdriver and reconnected and tightened the jubilee clip, and its stayed on fine ever since.

But recently I've been finding there to be not as much power as before, today it literally felt like it was going to stall and I felt I had to give it extra revs when it nearly cut out when coming to a standstill.
It might not have cut out, but that's what it felt like.

Also it feels like a slug sometimes and all of a sudden the power will come back.

So I'm wondering if any of you could please advise me on what could be the problem, I'm hoping nothing serious.
Might I have damaged the maf by not having the air filter connected during a 70ish mile trip ?

Nice way to invite replies by slagging people off!!

And that goes for everyone and not just the OP

You have been given suggestions so try investigating them

Or search the forum for others who had a similar problem

As has already been suggested you've probably damaged the MAF by having unfiltered air running through it. Unplug the MAF and see if it runs better, if it does then that is your problem.

Try that as a first step, it is easy and free.
