Swindon......

Life could be taking me to Swindon......

Need to know which side of town is sh!tsville and to be avoided, any good towns outside but commutable by car (was thinking Reading)
Family come from Wantage years ago, is this worth a look?
I am sure some of you are from this area, advice gratefully appreciated.

General refresher on the Do's and Dont's of bumpkin living as I dont have a sister to fondle

Royal Wootton Basset is quite nice. Lived in The Wiltshire Golf & Country Club for several weeks whilst I was working in Malmesbury, quite nice also, before I moved to Wokingham.

Reading to Swindon is a one hour commute.
Swindon itself not my cup of tea (most towns arn't).

Plenty of nice villages in the surronding area.

Swindon's OK*.  You just need to check the areas carefully before you move there!

Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

Commuting is not a good idea! Peak traffic in town is real bad!

Tell me where yoy are going to be working and I can advise what areas to look for houses.
Will you be renting or buying?

Avoid, Penhill, Pinehurst, Park south, park North, Toothill among others.
They are the worst!

Outlying areas - Basset, Highworth, Purton, Cricklade are all good if you want small.
If you want any kind of Nightlife you will have to travel into Town so factor in Taxis! (very expensive!)

Oh and Reading is far, far worse than Swindon!

Might be working near Faraday Road if I get the job/the money is acceptable.
Was born in Clapham and have lived in the worst South London hoods before like Brixton & Camberwell  etc so my idea of a sh1thole is really bad compared to what most think is bad....
Getting old so regular nights out is not a major concern although I'd like to think im not past it
Want a house, 2 up 2 down, Drive/Garage for project and street parking for comapny hack, not greedy also not loaded, would rent for a bit then buy once I have sold/Rented my London Pad.
Was thinking of something not completly in Banjo country but only 5 minutes from some open space.

To be fair, I have spent some time in Brixton and simmilar areas around SE London, and yeah, Swindon is like Chelsea in comparison.

So lots of Money and nice houses with a few really sh!t estates dotted around in the middle like the Worlds End or Cremorne  Chelsea has some very sh!te area's hence the families move to Clapham in the 60's  Good football team though........
