Hi,
I have a 140bhp gt tdi. Had the car for 3 months and love it. In terms of mpg I am pretty happy with it, although was hoping for a little bit more per gallon. I had a 2002 525d sport 5 series BMW and on a cruise to Inverness from Newcastle 570 mile round trip, using cruise control and staying at speed limits I would get 48mpg on average (circa 15 trips!). I have done this twice in golf and traffic levels the same with the same driving technique has returned 62 mpg on computer, although is actually about 57/58 when u fill up and measure it properly. This is some 10mpg short of official, I know official is always optimistic however given when I do the drive I use economical techniques (coasting in gear etc) I would have thought I should achieve mid 60 mpg. This is only about 10mpg more than the BMW which weighed a lot more, was 7 years older and only had 5 speed.
Does this suggest there is something wrong with car, or am I getting good results?
What are thoughts on remapping to improve response and mpg?
Cheers Gaz.
